Suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police Abba Kyari has defended his asset declaration, insisting that the undeclared properties linked to him by anti-graft investigators belonged to his late father and not to him personally.
According to The Punch (Nov. 5, 2025), Kyari made the clarification in response to fresh allegations by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) that he failed to include certain real estate assets in his official filings.
Kyari, through his legal team, stated that the assets in question were family-owned properties inherited from his late father, stressing that he had no direct financial control over them. He described the reports as “misleading and an attempt to tarnish my name further while my case is still in court.”
Channels Television reported that Kyari’s counsel, Barrister Hamza Nuhu, argued that the properties had long been part of family inheritance and were under the administration of the late patriarch’s estate. He urged the public to allow due process to take its course instead of drawing premature conclusions.
Premium Times noted that Kyari remains under suspension following his indictment in a high-profile drug trafficking and corruption case, which has drawn both national and international attention. The Federal High Court in Abuja is still hearing multiple charges against him.
In his statement, Kyari reiterated his commitment to proving his innocence, maintaining that “every property and asset I own was duly declared in compliance with the law.”
