Amid a deepening leadership crisis, Alhaji Mohammed Abdulrahman, the newly declared Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has pledged to end impunity and reposition the party for a stronger future. Speaking at the PDP national secretariat in Abuja, Abdulrahman emphasized his commitment to restoring internal democracy, healing divisions, and preparing the party for the 2027 general elections.
Abdulrahman assumed office following the suspension of National Chairman Umar Damagum and other top officials by a faction of the National Working Committee (NWC). His emergence has sparked calls for unity and reform from party stakeholders, including former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, who urged the new leadership to address injustices and rebuild trust.
“We are taking responsibility to restore order and unity in our great party,” Abdulrahman stated. “The PDP belongs to its members, and no one individual can hold it hostage.”
Support groups across the Northwest have also rallied behind Abdulrahman, urging him to use his experience to restore the party’s lost glory and ensure justice for all members. The party has faced internal turmoil for years, transitioning from Nigeria’s ruling party to a weakened opposition.
