Anthropic, the U.S.-based artificial intelligence startup behind the Claude family of large language models, has announced the opening of new offices in Paris and Munich, marking a significant expansion of its European footprint. This move reflects the company’s strategic commitment to scaling operations across the EMEA region, which it now calls its fastest-growing market.

Founded in 2021 by former OpenAI researchers, Anthropic has rapidly emerged as a key player in the generative AI space. Backed by tech giants Amazon and Alphabet, the company was recently valued at $183 billion, underscoring investor confidence in its long-term potential.

Anthropic already maintains offices in London, Dublin, and Zurich, and has tripled its headcount in Europe over the past year. The new Paris and Munich hubs will serve as regional anchors for engineering, research, and business development, enabling closer collaboration with European partners and regulators.

The company reports that its run-rate revenue in EMEA has grown more than ninefold in the last 12 months, driven by enterprise adoption of its Claude models. Major European clients include L'Oréal, BMW, and SAP, which are leveraging Claude for tasks ranging from customer service automation to internal knowledge management.

Anthropic’s expansion comes as European governments and institutions intensify scrutiny of AI technologies. The company has emphasized its commitment to safe and transparent AI development, aligning with the EU’s evolving regulatory landscape, including the forthcoming AI Act.

The Paris and Munich offices will also support Anthropic’s efforts to recruit top AI talent from Europe’s leading universities and research centers, reinforcing its position as a global innovator in responsible AI.
