Bauchi, Nigeria — The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Bauchi Zone, has threatened to embark on a strike over unresolved issues with the Federal Government, raising fears of another disruption in Nigeria’s higher education system.
Union’s Warning
The Bauchi Zone of ASUU issued a stern warning that it may resort to industrial action if the Federal Government does not act swiftly to resolve outstanding issues. The union accused authorities of neglecting agreements reached in previous negotiations, leaving lecturers frustrated and universities underfunded.
Speaking after a zonal meeting, ASUU leaders emphasized that the government’s failure to honor commitments has created a climate of uncertainty in Nigeria’s higher education sector. They noted that the strike threat is a last resort to compel action.

Among the grievances raised by ASUU Bauchi Zone are:
Poor funding of universities and inadequate infrastructure.
Non-payment of earned academic allowances.
Failure to review lecturers’ salaries and welfare packages.
Lack of commitment to implementing previous agreements between ASUU and the Federal Government.
