Renowned Nigerian writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and her husband, Dr. Ivara Esege, mourns the loss of one of their twin sons, 21-month-old Nkanu Nnamdi.
The toddler, one of a pair of twins born in 2024, passed away on January 7, 2026, following a short illness, according to a family statement released Thursday by her representative, Omawumi Ogbe of GLG Communications.
In the statement, the family described the loss as “profound” and expressed deep sorrow, asking the public and the media to respect their privacy as they grieve. They also requested prayers and understanding during this difficult period and indicated that no further statements would be issued.
The statement emphasized the importance of allowing the family space to process their grief, thanking well-wishers and members of the public for their compassion and respect during this moment of profound loss.
