Nigeria’s Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin, has issued a strong rebuke to U.S. President Donald Trump, demanding an immediate withdrawal of his recent threat and a formal apology to Nigeria. The call came after Trump reportedly labeled Nigeria “a disgraced country” and warned of potential U.S. military action over alleged killings of Christians.
Speaking in a viral video on Friday, Jibrin condemned Trump’s remarks as “offensive, undiplomatic, and a violation of international law.” He emphasized that such statements undermine diplomatic norms and could destabilize relations between the two nations.
“For the president of the United States to say, ‘Nigeria is a disgraced country and we will attack you’ — this is quite unacceptable,” Jibrin said. “He should retract that statement and apologise to Nigeria.”
The backlash has also drawn criticism from the Northern Elders’ Forum and the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, both of which denounced Trump’s comments as inflammatory and misleading.
