On November 11, 2025, Nigeria’s Department of State Services (DSS) charged Innocent Chukwuemeka Onukwume, a 27-year-old man from Oyigbo Local Government Area in Rivers State, for allegedly advocating a military coup through social media. According to the DSS, Onukwume used his verified X account (@theagroman) in October 2025 to post messages calling for:
The overthrow of President Bola Tinubu’s government
The suspension of the federal government
The removal of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)

The DSS stated that these actions violated:
Section 46A(1) and Section 59(1) of the Criminal Code Act
Section 24(1)(b) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2024 (as amended) Ripples Nigeria
Onukwume is expected to be arraigned later this week, and the case has sparked debate over free speech, national security, and the limits of online expression in Nigeria.
