An Ekiti State High Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti has sentenced an ex-convict and one other individual to death by hanging after finding them guilty of armed robbery and conspiracy. The judgment, delivered on Tuesday, has been hailed as a strong stance against rising violent crimes in the state.
According to The Nation (Nov. 5, 2025), the condemned individuals — identified as Ojo Oluwaseun (30) and Kayode Adewale (27) — were found guilty of robbing a motorcyclist at gunpoint in Ado-Ekiti in 2021. The court heard that the men attacked their victim, dispossessed him of his motorcycle and cash, and fled before being later apprehended by the police.
Channels Television reported that the prosecution, led by State Counsel, Mr. Adeola Adetoye, presented five witnesses and several exhibits, including a locally made pistol, used in the robbery. The defense, however, called no witnesses.
In his ruling, Justice Lekan Ogunmoye stated that the prosecution had proven its case beyond reasonable doubt. He described the defendants’ actions as “callous and deserving of the full weight of the law.”
Daily Trust added that the court noted one of the convicts, Ojo, had previously served a prison term for a similar offense, which weighed heavily in the final judgment.
Reacting to the verdict, the Ekiti State Attorney General, through a spokesperson, reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring that the rule of law is upheld and that criminal activities are decisively punished.
