Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced that he expects the company’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) software to receive full regulatory approval in China by February or March 2026. Speaking at Tesla’s annual shareholder meeting, Musk noted that the system currently has partial approval in China, allowing limited functionality compared to the U.S. version ZAWYA.
China, a key market for Tesla, has seen the company’s market share decline from a peak of 15.4% in early 2023 to just 8% recently, as local automakers offer competitive driver-assistance features at no extra cost ZAWYA. Full approval of FSD could help Tesla regain ground by unlocking the software’s full capabilities for Chinese drivers.
Musk’s optimism follows Tesla’s rollout of FSD in China earlier this year under limited conditions. The company is reportedly working closely with Chinese regulators to meet safety and data compliance standards necessary for broader deployment ZAWYA.
