Abuja, Dec. 5, 2025 — The Federal Government has announced that all verified contractors will be paid by December 20, in a move designed to ease financial strain on project execution and accelerate ongoing infrastructure works nationwide.
Minister of Works, David Umahi, disclosed the deadline after a meeting with contractors in Abuja. He explained that the government is committed to clearing arrears before year-end to ensure contractors can mobilise effectively and deliver projects without further delays.
Umahi noted that the payments will cover verified certificates for road and bridge projects, stressing that the administration will not tolerate inflated claims or unexecuted contracts.
“We are determined to meet this deadline. Contractors who have submitted genuine certificates will be paid. This is part of our resolve to ensure transparency and accountability in project financing,” Umahi said.
Contractors welcomed the announcement, describing it as a relief amid rising costs of materials and fuel. They urged the government to sustain prompt payments to avoid project abandonment.
Analysts say the move could boost confidence in Nigeria’s infrastructure sector, attract more private investment, and improve delivery timelines on critical projects.
