On Tuesday, November 11, 2025, Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja ruled in favor of an ex-parte application filed by Sule Lamido, a founding member of the PDP, effectively halting the party’s national convention scheduled for November 15–16 in Ibadan, Oyo State The Guardian Nigeria Naija News Daily Post Nigeria.
Lamido, through his counsel Jephthah Njikonye (SAN), argued that he was denied access to the nomination form for the National Chairmanship position, despite having paid for it. He claimed this violated his rights and the party’s internal democratic processes. The court agreed that the application had merit and issued an interim injunction restraining the PDP from proceeding with the convention until the substantive suit is heard and determined.
In addition to stopping the PDP, the court also barred the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from monitoring or recognizing any activities or outcomes related to the convention The Guardian Nigeria Naija News.
This marks the second time the court has intervened to halt the PDP’s convention plans, raising concerns about internal party democracy and legal compliance. The PDP has yet to issue an official response, but party insiders suggest that emergency consultations are underway to address the legal setback.
