Italian Serie A club Fiorentina has officially named Paolo Vanoli as its new head coach, following the departure of Stefano Pioli amid a disappointing start to the 2025–26 season. The club confirmed Vanoli’s appointment in a statement released on Friday, signaling a strategic shift as it seeks to reverse its fortunes in the league.
Vanoli, 52, brings a wealth of experience to the role, having previously managed Venezia, Spartak Moscow, and served as an assistant with the Italian national team. He is expected to take charge immediately, with his first match scheduled against fellow relegation battlers next weekend.
Performance Crisis
Fiorentina currently sits near the bottom of the Serie A table, having secured just four points from ten matches, prompting the club’s leadership to act swiftly. Pioli, who returned to Fiorentina after a stint with AC Milan, was unable to replicate past successes and was relieved of his duties earlier this week.
Club president Rocco Commisso expressed confidence in Vanoli’s ability to stabilize the team, stating, “We believe Paolo’s tactical discipline and leadership will bring the energy and structure needed to turn this season around.”
