According to Police Public Relations Officer SP Bright Edafe, operatives of the CP-Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT) stormed a hideout at Panama Layout, Ughelli, on November 19, 2025, after receiving credible intelligence about a violent gang responsible for multiple crimes in the area.
The suspects—identified as Peter Ejenekevwe (31), alias Calamity, Clever David (35), Chukwuemeka Gospel Onuchukwu (29), and Onome Collins (32)—opened fire on the police, leading to a fierce exchange of gunshots. All four were fatally wounded and later confirmed dead at the General Hospital, Ughelli.
During the operation, police recovered two locally made long guns, three short guns, 23 live cartridges, and keys to two Lexus 350 SUVs, one of which was traced to a robbery victim. A police officer sustained gunshot injuries but is reported to be in stable condition.
Edafe noted that the gang had confessed to the robbery and murder of Anthony Igoroko Omowho in Ekredjebor earlier this month. He assured residents that the command remains committed to dismantling criminal networks across the state.
