Funke Akindele’s film Behind The Scenes has emerged as the top earner at the Nigerian box office in 2025, surpassing all other Nollywood releases with a total gross of ₦2,103,039,706. The figure places the movie firmly at the peak of Nigeria’s annual box office charts and elevates Akindele to the top of Africa’s filmmaking earnings list.
The movie — produced and co-directed by Akindele alongside Tunde Olaoye — tells the story of a generous real estate entrepreneur whose kindness begins to wear on her personal life as she grapples with boundaries and betrayal. Its strong narrative, relatable themes, and ensemble cast helped draw large audiences during its theatrical run.
Behind The Scenes opened strongly in cinemas in December 2025, breaking several records including the fastest West African film to surpass ₦1 billion in ticket sales and posting one of the highest single-day grosses on Boxing Day.
The film’s performance also marked Akindele’s third Niger-movie to cross the ₦1 billion box office threshold, joining previous billion-naira successes such as, Everybody loves jenifa , Omo Ghetto: The Saga , Battle on Buka Street — helped define her commercial dominance in Nollywood.
FilmOne Entertainment, the movie’s distributor, confirmed the box office figures and highlighted the strong turnout across cinemas nationwide, attributing the movie’s success to its broad appeal and Akindele’s star power.
