The Jigawa State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of five armed robbery suspects in separate operations, while a sixth suspect managed to escape during the crackdown.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam, the first incident occurred on October 13, when three armed youths ambushed a 50-year-old man, Usman Muhammad, in Malam Madori Local Government Area. The attackers robbed him of his motorcycle, smartphone, ATM card, and other valuables. Following swift investigations, police arrested Adamu Yusuf (20) and Adamu Isah (25) on October 28. Recovered items included the victim’s stolen phone, ATM card, a Dane gun, cutlass, and other documents.
Further investigations led to the arrest of Aisha Yusuf (47) and Yusuf Adamu (55), accused of concealing stolen property. In a separate case on October 30, detectives in Gumel Division arrested Habu Yahaya (30) for conspiring in another robbery.
The Jigawa police emphasized that all suspects will be charged in court for criminal conspiracy, armed robbery, and aiding concealment of stolen property.
This latest operation builds on earlier efforts by the command to curb motorcycle-related robberies. In July, police arrested additional suspects in Ringim and Dutse LGAs, recovering stolen motorcycles and weapons after victims identified their attackers.
Authorities noted that these combined operations have already reduced robbery incidents by over 30% in rural hotspots like Ringim and Hadejia, underscoring the impact of intelligence-led policing and community collaboration.
The police command reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining the momentum, urging residents to remain vigilant and continue providing timely information to security agencies.
