The Deputy Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Muhammad Samaila Bagudo, has regained his freedom after being abducted by gunmen suspected to be Lakurawa terrorists. His release was confirmed late Saturday night by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ahmed Idris, in a telephone interview.
Bagudo was kidnapped on Thursday, October 31, around 8:20 p.m., shortly after observing Isha’i prayers in his hometown of Bagudo, the headquarters of Bagudo Local Government Area. Armed with sophisticated weapons, the assailants stormed the town and whisked away the 60-year-old lawmaker to an unknown destination, sparking panic among residents.
Following the abduction, the Kebbi State Police Command, supported by military personnel and local vigilante groups, launched a coordinated search and rescue operation. His eventual release came amid interfaith prayers held in Birnin Kebbi, where Muslim and Christian clerics gathered to seek divine intervention for peace and security in the state.
Police spokesperson CSP Nafiu Abubakar confirmed the release but said further details would be provided after debriefing.
