Kebbi State Governor has praised the swift and coordinated efforts of Nigerian security operatives following the successful rescue of Deputy Speaker Samaila Muhammad-Bagudu, who was abducted from his hometown in Bagudo Local Government Area on Friday, November 1, 2025. The lawmaker was kidnapped shortly after observing evening prayers at the mosque and remained in captivity for over a week.
The rescue operation, carried out by a joint task force of police, military, and intelligence units, culminated in Bagudu’s safe return on Saturday, November 9. According to Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Yakubu Tafida, the Deputy Speaker is in good health and high spirits, and is receiving medical attention and psychological support.
Governor Nasir Idris expressed deep appreciation to the security agencies for their “professionalism and bravery,” emphasizing that their success reflects the state’s commitment to combating banditry and restoring peace. He also warned political actors against politicizing insecurity, urging unity in the face of rising threats.
The rescue coincided with an interfaith prayer session held in Birnin Kebbi, where Muslim and Christian clerics gathered to seek divine intervention for peace and stability in the region. The governor reiterated his administration’s resolve to strengthen security infrastructure and collaborate with federal agencies to prevent future incidents.
The abduction had sparked widespread concern across Kebbi, with civil society groups and religious leaders calling for urgent action. Bagudu’s release has been met with relief and renewed calls for vigilance, especially in rural communities vulnerable to bandit attacks.
