Residents and motorists in Ikeja will experience temporary traffic disruptions this weekend as the Lagos State Government implements diversion plans for the 2025 Capital City Race.
In a statement signed by Bolanle Ogunlola, Director of Public Affairs, the government explained that the race, organized by the Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC) in partnership with Capital City Race organizers, will begin at Ikeja Shopping Mall and proceed through major routes including Billings Way, Kudirat Abiola Way, Opebi Link Bridge, Adeniyi Jones, and Oba Akran Avenue, before finishing at the Archbishop Vining Memorial Church, Oba Akinjobi Way The Punch Nairametrics.
Authorities noted that several roads, junctions, and intersections along the race corridor will be partially closed during the event. However, closures will be opened intermittently to ease movement within the axis as the race progresses. The government assured residents that officers from the Nigerian Police Force, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), and other security agencies will be deployed to manage traffic and ensure safety The Punch.
The Capital City Race, now in its second edition, has been endorsed by the Lagos State Government as part of its commitment to promoting fitness, healthy living, and community engagement.
