The Lagos–Ibadan Blue Train, a modern rail service connecting Lagos and Ibadan, is poised to revolutionize travel between Nigeria’s commercial and southwestern hubs. The project, led by the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) in partnership with private investors, aims to provide faster, safer, and more comfortable rail travel for passengers and freight.
According to The Guardian Nigeria (Nov. 9, 2025), the 156-kilometer line is designed for high-speed trains capable of traveling at speeds up to 150 km/h, cutting travel time between Lagos and Ibadan from several hours by road to approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. The train service will feature modern coaches, electronic ticketing systems, and enhanced passenger amenities, including air-conditioned cabins and onboard security.
Vanguard News reports that the project is part of the federal government’s larger effort to modernize Nigeria’s rail network, reduce traffic congestion on major highways, and promote economic development along the corridor. Officials note that the Blue Train is expected to boost trade, tourism, and job creation in both Lagos and Oyo State.

Government sources say the train service is expected to begin trial operations within the next few months, with full commercial operations slated for early 2026.
