The Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) has suspended academic activities at its Iseyin campus for two weeks following the tragic death of a 200-level student in a road accident near the campus.
The student, whose name has not been officially released, was reportedly hit by a commercial vehicle along the Iseyin/Saki Road on Friday. Eyewitnesses say the driver fled the scene, prompting outrage among students who later staged protests and allegedly set the vehicle ablaze.
In response to the unrest, LAUTECH’s Registrar Olayinka Balogun issued a statement announcing the temporary closure of the campus to allow for calm and further investigation. The university expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended condolences to the student’s family.
