Osogbo, Dec. 5, 2025 — Vice-Chancellor of Osun State University, Prof. Odunola Olajumoke, has encouraged students to embrace the newly introduced NELFUND student loan initiative as a means of financing their academic pursuits.
Speaking during a university event, Prof. Olajumoke explained that the loan scheme was designed to support indigent students who might otherwise struggle to afford tuition and other educational expenses. She emphasized that the program aligns with the federal government’s vision of inclusive education, ensuring that no student is denied access to learning because of financial hardship.
The Vice-Chancellor noted that NELFUND loans are not just financial support but an investment in the future of young Nigerians. She advised students to apply responsibly and to plan their finances wisely in order to maximize the benefits of the scheme. UNIOSUN management, she added, would provide guidance to students throughout the application process to ensure smooth access to the loans.
Prof. Olajumoke stressed that the initiative has the potential to reduce dropout rates linked to financial difficulties and to provide a pathway for equal access to education, particularly for students from disadvantaged backgrounds. Analysts believe that if implemented effectively, the NELFUND scheme could transform Nigeria’s higher education landscape by making tertiary education more affordable and accessible.
