Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has clarified that the invitation she extended to Senate President Godswill Akpabio and several other senators to attend a project commissioning in her home district was strictly “procedural” and not personal. The letter, formally signed by Akpoti-Uduaghan, was read in plenary on Thursday.
The Kogi Central senator’s letter invited the Senate President and other distinguished colleagues to a Sunday event in Ihima, Kogi State, marking her second year in office. It offered travel details to Obajana Airstrip for ease of access.
Akpoti-Uduaghan emphasised that the invitation was part of her duties to facilitate government engagements in her constituency and maintain collegial relations within the Senate—rather than a gesture aimed at reconciliation or personal overtures. She said the move was consistent with parliamentary protocol and constituency outreach.
The clarification follows high-profile tensions between Akpoti-Uduaghan and Akpabio linked to earlier disputes on Senate seating and allegations of misconduct. Some observers viewed the invitation as a symbolic thaw in their contentious relationship.
