The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 75-year-old man, identified as Nna Nnanna Felix, for allegedly peddling hard drugs in Abia State.
The septuagenarian was apprehended during a raid on Umunteke Asa community in Ukwa West Local Government Area of the state, where operatives recovered 1.6 kilograms of “skunk,” a high-potency strain of cannabis, from his residence.
NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Sunday. He said the operation was part of ongoing efforts by the agency to curb the spread of illicit drugs across communities in the South-East.
According to the statement, the suspect is currently in custody and will be charged to court after investigations are concluded.
“This arrest underscores the fact that no one is exempt from the law, regardless of age or status. Drug trafficking remains a serious crime, and we are determined to ensure that all offenders are brought to justice,” Babafemi stated.
He added that the NDLEA had intensified its surveillance and intelligence operations in Abia and neighboring states to dismantle supply networks and apprehend more offenders.
The arrest of the elderly suspect has sparked mixed reactions, with residents expressing shock that a man of his age could still be involved in such illicit activities.
The NDLEA reiterated its commitment to maintaining a drug-free Nigeria and called on citizens to report suspicious activities to the agency.
