Authorities have moved swiftly to counter misinformation after a viral report alleged that a group of prospective corps members traveling to Gombe State for orientation had been involved in a road accident.
In a joint clarification issued on Thursday, the NYSC Gombe State Coordinator, Ada Imoni, stated that no such incident had occurred. She explained that all prospective corps members posted to the state for the 2025 Batch ‘C’ Stream II orientation exercise arrived safely at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Amada, Akko Local Government Area. Imoni emphasized that the safety of corps members remains a top priority and that the NYSC works closely with security agencies to ensure smooth transportation and reception during orientation.
Similarly, the FRSC Sector Commander in Gombe State, Felix Theman, confirmed that his officers had monitored the movement of corps members into the state and found no record of any crash. He urged the public to disregard the false report, stressing that the circulation of unverified information could cause unnecessary panic among parents, guardians, and the general public.
Theman further assured that the FRSC continues to provide escort and traffic management support during the mobilization of corps members nationwide, reinforcing its commitment to road safety.
The false report had sparked concern among families of prospective corps members, many of whom took to social media to seek clarification. Thursday’s official statements from both NYSC and FRSC have now calmed fears, with authorities reiterating that the orientation exercise in Gombe is proceeding without incident.
The NYSC called on Nigerians to rely on official communication channels for updates, warning against the dangers of spreading misinformation that could undermine public trust and cause undue anxiety.
