Commander of the corps, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, disclosed the arrests while parading the suspects at the Amotekun headquarters in Akure. He explained that those apprehended were linked to offences including kidnapping, armed robbery, burglary, and illegal possession of firearms. Adeleye said the corps had intensified operations across all 18 local government areas of Ondo State to curb criminal activities.
In addition to the arrests, Adeleye revealed that Amotekun has begun daily patrols of schools to protect pupils and teachers from potential attacks. He noted that the move was prompted by recent abductions in neighbouring states, stressing that Ondo would not allow such incidents to occur within its borders.
The commander assured residents that the corps remains committed to working with other security agencies to ensure peace and safety. He urged communities to continue sharing intelligence with Amotekun operatives, emphasizing that local cooperation is vital to sustaining security gains.
The initiative has been welcomed by parents and school authorities, who say the patrols will help restore confidence in the safety of children attending classes.
