Osogbo, Dec. 5, 2025 — The All Progressives Congress has disqualified seven out of nine aspirants screened for the Osun governorship primary scheduled for December 13, 2025, including former deputy governor and ex-party secretary Iyiola Omisore.
The decision was contained in the report of the APC Screening Committee, chaired by Chief Obinna Uzoh, which concluded its work on December 4, 2025 in Abuja. The committee cited gaps and irregularities in nomination processes as the reason for the disqualification.
Disqualified Aspirants
The barred aspirants include:
Senator Iyiola Omisore
Babatunde Oralusi
Oyedotun Babayemi
Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi
Former Deputy Governor Benedict Alabi
Adegoke Rasheed Okiki
Senator Babajide Omoworare
Only two aspirants — Mulikat Abiola Jimoh and Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji — were cleared to contest the primary election.
Reasons for Disqualification
According to the committee’s report, the aspirants failed to meet mandatory nomination criteria, particularly the requirement to present sponsorship by at least five fully registered and financially up-to-date party members from each local government area in Osun State.
The committee stressed that the issues raised were “weighty, substantial, and germane to the integrity of the screening process.”
Political Context
The disqualification has heightened tensions within the Osun APC ahead of the governorship election slated for August 8, 2026. Party stakeholders have been urged to reconcile differences to ensure unity and credibility in the primaries.
Analysts say the decision could reshape the political landscape in Osun, as several heavyweight aspirants have now been sidelined, leaving the field open for new contenders.
