The PDP has strongly criticized a Federal High Court ruling that temporarily stopped its upcoming national convention scheduled for November 15, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State. The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, described the judgment as a direct attack on the internal autonomy of political parties.

The ruling, issued by Justice James Omotosho, questioned the legality of the processes leading up to the convention. However, the PDP insists that the court’s decision does not invalidate its preparations to elect new national officers.

The party also cited a recent Supreme Court judgment affirming the supremacy of political parties in managing their internal affairs, arguing that the judiciary should not interfere in matters such as conventions and leadership elections.
In a related development, another Federal High Court judge, Justice Peter Lifu, rejected a separate application by former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido seeking to halt the same convention, further complicating the legal landscape Vanguard Leadership Premium Times.
Despite the legal hurdles, the PDP has instructed its legal team to appeal the ruling and urged its members to remain focused and united.
