The Marine Unit of the Ports Authority Police, Western Command has confirmed the arrest of seven individuals suspected of carrying out repeated attacks on foreign vessels operating within Lagos ports.
How They Were Caught
During a routine patrol near Berth 12 of the PTML waterfront, officers spotted a suspicious speedboat loitering close to the vessel CL YINGNA HE.
Initially, three men were visible on the boat. Upon closer inspection, four more suspects were found lying flat on the deck, apparently trying to evade detection.
The suspects were seen extending a long bamboo pole fitted with a steel hook toward the vessel, suggesting an attempt to unlawfully board the ship.
Police Statement
Assistant Superintendent of Police Isaac Hundeyin, spokesperson for the command, explained that the arrests were part of intensified patrols aimed at curbing rising incidents of piracy and illegal boarding in Lagos waters. He noted that the suspects failed to provide any credible explanation for their presence or actions when questioned.

The arrests come amid growing concerns about maritime insecurity in Nigeria’s coastal waters, which have long been plagued by piracy, smuggling, and attacks on cargo ships.
