The Bauchi State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two suspected motorcycle thieves in Darazo town following an intelligence-led operation.
According to the command’s spokesperson, SP Ahmed Wakil, the arrests were made after a concerned resident alerted police on November 1, 2025, about two men riding a Bajaj motorcycle and making suspicious inquiries about motorcycle dealers. Detectives from the Darazo Division swiftly mobilized and apprehended the suspects.
The suspects were later identified as 25-year-old Nura Yau and 25-year-old Bayero Isah, both residents of Akuyam village in Misau Local Government Area. During interrogation, they allegedly confessed to stealing motorcycles from different locations, including Akuyam village on September 30, 2025, and from a Juma’at Mosque in Darazo town.
Police investigations confirmed that one of the recovered motorcycles belonged to Auwal Adamu, 50, who had earlier reported it stolen. The suspects have since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and prosecution.
Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, commended the vigilance of residents and urged the public to continue reporting suspicious activities. He reiterated the command’s commitment to curbing motorcycle theft and other crimes across the state.
This arrest comes amid a wider crackdown on motorcycle-related thefts across northern Nigeria. Similar operations in Kano and Anambra States in October led to multiple arrests and the recovery of stolen motorcycles and tricycles, underscoring the growing trend of motorcycle theft as a criminal enterprise.
