Police Detain Five Armed Robbery Suspects in Enugu State

The Enugu State Police Command announced on Saturday that operatives have apprehended five suspects in connection with a series of armed robberies across the state. The suspects are currently in custody as investigations proceed and charges are being finalised.

According to the command’s public relations officer, Daniel Ndukwe, the suspects were arrested following an intelligence‑led operation targeting known hideouts and transit routes used by criminal gangs. The haul from the arrest reportedly includes locally‑made pistols, live ammunition, and motorcycles believed to have been snatched from victims during the robberies.

“Acting on credible information, our operatives moved swiftly, detained five individuals and recovered firearms, ammunition and other exhibits linked to the robbery gang,” the spokesperson said.

The Commissioner of Police in Enugu, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, commended the tactical teams for their proactive work and urged residents to continue supporting police efforts by reporting suspicious activities early.

The arrested suspects are expected to be formally charged under the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act once detectives complete the investigative phase.
