President Tinubu formally administered the oath of office to Prof. Joash Amupitan (SAN) at 1:50 p.m. in the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa in Abuja, marking the beginning of his tenure as the substantive Chairman of INEC. (Vanguard News)
During the ceremony, the President commended Amupitan’s nomination and subsequent Senate confirmation as evidence of the confidence reposed in his ability by both the executive and legislative arms of government. (Von News)

President Tinubu emphasised the importance of the commission’s role, pointing out that after 25 years of democracy Nigeria has made progress in strengthening its institutions, especially the electoral system. Amupitan, a professor of law from the University of Jos and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, has assumed office at a critical time. His immediate tasks include overseeing the forthcoming governorship election in Anambra State and other key electoral events scheduled in the coming months. (Businessday NG)
