Lagos, Dec. 5, 2025 — The Nigerian Red Cross Society has announced the distribution of over ₦82 million in cash assistance to families impacted by flooding across Lagos.
According to NRCS officials, the initiative targeted 267 households identified as most vulnerable after the floods displaced thousands and destroyed property in several communities.
The cash support is part of the Red Cross’ Cash Transfer Programme, designed to provide immediate relief and help victims rebuild their lives. Beneficiaries received direct payments to cover urgent needs such as food, shelter, and medical care.
NRCS Secretary-General, Abubakar Kende, explained that the intervention was made possible through partnerships with international humanitarian organisations and donor agencies. He stressed that the Red Cross remains committed to supporting disaster-hit communities across Nigeria.
Flood victims expressed gratitude, noting that the assistance would help them recover from the devastating impact of the disaster.
Analysts say the initiative highlights the growing role of humanitarian organisations in complementing government efforts to address climate-related disasters and urban flooding challenges in Lagos.
