Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has commissioned the Ibeshe LagosHOMS Housing Estate, a 233-unit development designed to provide affordable homes for residents of Ikorodu and surrounding communities.
Speaking at the unveiling ceremony, Sanwo-Olu emphasized that the project reflects his administration’s commitment to tackling Lagos’ housing deficit and improving living standards. He noted that with Lagos’ population projected to exceed 30 million by 2035, the demand for housing will continue to rise, requiring stronger collaboration between government and private investors.
The estate comprises one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments, built with modern infrastructure including paved roads, drainage systems, water supply, and electricity. Sanwo-Olu highlighted that the project was delivered under the Lagos State Housing Scheme (LagosHOMS), which aims to provide sustainable housing solutions across the state.
The governor called on real estate developers, financial institutions, and investors to partner with the government in expanding affordable housing initiatives. “Government alone cannot bridge the housing gap. We need the private sector to come in with innovation, financing, and delivery capacity,” he said.
Sanwo-Olu also assured residents that his administration will continue to prioritize housing as part of its THEMES+ agenda, which focuses on infrastructure, economic growth, and social welfare.
The unveiling was attended by top government officials, community leaders, and prospective homeowners, many of whom expressed optimism that the estate would ease housing pressure in Ikorodu.
