The Super Eagles have resumed training ahead of their crucial World Cup qualifier against Gabon after the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) resolved the dispute over unpaid allowances that had earlier led to a temporary boycott.
According to The Punch, the players returned to training on Wednesday evening at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, following assurances and immediate payments made by the NFF. The session, which was initially tense, ended on a positive note as the team shifted focus back to Thursday’s must-win game.
Channels Television reports that the NFF confirmed the release of funds through the Ministry of Sports Development, with both parties reaching what officials described as an “amicable resolution.” Players were reportedly paid part of their outstanding match bonuses, while further payments are expected before the end of the qualifying round.
BBC Sport Africa adds that team captain William Troost-Ekong and senior officials thanked the NFF for addressing the concerns promptly, urging fans to rally behind the team as they aim to strengthen Nigeria’s qualification campaign.
