ArticleProperty Demolition in Lagos: Igbo Town Unions Petition UN, ECOWAS Court
The Association of Igbo Town Unions (ASITU) has filed petitions with the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR) and the ECOWAS Community Court of Justice in response to what it describes as “systematic and selective” demolitions of Igbo-owned properties in Lagos State. The union alleges ethnic discrimination, economic cleansing and the erosion of property rights for its members.
