A newly inaugurated campaign office for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Makurdi, Benue State, was partially demolished by officials of the Benue State Urban Development Board on Thursday, sparking political tension and condemnation from supporters.
The building, which also served as the state secretariat of the Ahmed Bola Tinubu Support Group, had its perimeter fence and gate pulled down during the operation. The office was inaugurated just a week earlier in a ceremony attended by supporters from Benue and neighboring North-Central states. The event was convened by Dr. Mathias Byuan, Executive Director of Housing, Finance and Accounts at the Federal Housing Authority, who also serves as the group’s National Coordinator.
The Director-General of the support group, Dr. Tarnongo Simon, condemned the demolition, stating that the structure had a valid Certificate of Occupancy and approved building plans. He described the action as “uncalled for” and politically motivated.
However, the Benue State Government denied any political undertone, explaining that the demolition was part of a broader road dualization project along the Makurdi–Enugu Road corridor. According to Chief Press Secretary Tersoo Kula, the exercise affected multiple structures and was supervised by government officials as part of urban development efforts.
