President Bola Tinubu has joined Nigerians in mourning the death of Olusegun Awolowo, grandson of the late nationalist and statesman, Chief Obafemi Awolowo. The President highlighted Segun’s contributions to national development, particularly his tenure as Executive Director of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) from 2013 to 2021, where he became the longest-serving head of the agency. Under his leadership, NEPC expanded Nigeria’s export base and promoted non-oil trade, earning him recognition as a reform-minded technocrat.
Tinubu extended his condolences to Segun’s wife and children, his mother Sisi Abah Folawiyo, and the entire Awolowo family. He also commiserated with the governments and people of Ogun and Lagos States, noting that Segun’s death leaves a void in Nigeria’s intellectual and political landscape.
