A migrant boat capsized off the coast of Malaysia on Friday, leaving one confirmed dead and dozens missing as rescue teams scrambled to the scene. The incident occurred near Kota Bharu, Kelantan, an area known for frequent maritime crossings by migrants attempting to reach Malaysia from neighboring countries.
According to Malay Mail (Nov. 9, 2025), the overcrowded vessel reportedly encountered rough seas before overturning, throwing passengers into turbulent waters. Survivors told authorities that the boat was carrying more than 50 people when it capsized, with many unable to swim to safety.
The Star Malaysia reported that local authorities, the Royal Malaysian Navy, and the Maritime Enforcement Agency were deployed immediately, conducting search-and-rescue operations. So far, only a handful of survivors have been rescued, while recovery efforts continue amid worsening weather conditions.
