Tragedy in Sokoto: 25-Year-Old Man Arrested for Fatally Stabbing Teenage Wife
Sokoto

Authorities in Sokoto State, Nigeria, have arrested a 25-year-old man accused of fatally stabbing his teenage wife during a domestic dispute that turned violent. The shocking incident, which occurred in the Gidan Dare area of Wamako Local Government, has sparked public outrage and renewed conversations about domestic violence and gender-based abuse in the region.

According to reports from Channels Television (Nov. 5, 2025), the suspect, identified only as Abdulrahman, allegedly stabbed his 17-year-old wife, Aisha, multiple times following a heated argument. Neighbors reportedly intervened too late, as the victim succumbed to her injuries before emergency services arrived.

The Sokoto State Police Command confirmed the arrest in a statement released by its Public Relations Officer, ASP Ahmed Rufai, noting that the suspect was apprehended while attempting to flee the scene. The command has launched a full-scale investigation, adding that the suspect will be charged to court upon completion of the inquiry.

Daily Trust quoted witnesses who said the couple had been having repeated quarrels since their marriage earlier this year. Community leaders have condemned the act, describing it as “barbaric and heartbreaking,” and called for justice and stronger preventive measures against domestic violence.

Human rights advocates, including members of the Women Advocates Research and Documentation Centre (WARDC) and FIDA Nigeria, have urged the state government to intensify awareness campaigns and establish support systems for young women in forced or early marriages.
