President Donald Trump has announced that no U.S. government official will attend the upcoming G20 summit in South Africa, citing what he described as “human rights abuses” against white Afrikaners in the country. The summit is scheduled to take place later this month in Johannesburg, where leaders from the world’s largest economies are expected to gather.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated:
“It is a total disgrace that the G20 will be held in South Africa. Afrikaners are being killed and slaughtered, and their land and farms are being illegally confiscated. No US Government Official will attend as long as these Human Rights abuses continue.”
The decision reverses an earlier plan for Vice President JD Vance to attend on Trump’s behalf. Trump also expressed his intention to host the 2026 G20 summit in Miami, Florida, potentially at one of his own resorts.
South Africa’s government has denied the allegations, calling the boycott “regrettable” and emphasizing that no credible evidence supports claims of systematic violence or land seizures targeting white citizens. Political analysts warn the move could strain diplomatic and economic ties between the two nations.
