Panic gripped parts of Kogi State on Tuesday night as gunmen carried out a series of armed robberies, leaving two people dead and several others injured. The coordinated attacks, which took place in Okene and Adavi Local Government Areas, targeted residential homes and local businesses.
According to The Punch (Nov. 5, 2025), witnesses reported that the gunmen stormed the community around 9 p.m., firing indiscriminately as they looted shops and robbed residents of cash, phones, and valuables. The victims, identified locally as a shop owner and a motorcycle rider, were said to have been shot while trying to flee the scene.
Daily Post Nigeria quoted local sources as saying that the robbers operated for over 30 minutes without any immediate police response, causing widespread fear among residents. Several shops and homes were left ransacked, with one eyewitness describing the scene as “total chaos and panic.”
Confirming the incident, Kogi State Police Command’s spokesperson, SP William Ovye Aya, stated that officers have been deployed to the area and that an investigation is underway to track down the assailants. He assured the public that normalcy has been restored and urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies.
Community leaders and youth groups have since called for increased security patrols, particularly in commercial areas vulnerable to night-time attacks.
