The Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) has confirmed the identities of two students who died in a tragic road accident on Saturday at Powerline Junction, near Ikorodu Roundabout. The university expressed deep sorrow over the loss, clarifying that contrary to earlier reports, only two of the deceased were students of the institution.
The victims were:
Oluwaseyitan Afolabi Emmanuel – a newly admitted 200-level Direct Entry student in the Department of Banking and Finance, College of Applied Social Sciences
Ayomide Jagun – a 300-level student in the Department of Mechatronics Engineering, College of Engineering and Technology The Punch
The accident involved a sand-laden tipper truck that reportedly suffered brake failure, crashing into multiple vehicles including a Toyota Corolla, an MPV bus, and four tricycles P.M. News. The incident left several others injured and caused widespread grief in the Ikorodu community.
LASUSTECH’s Directorate of Information and Public Relations, led by Olanrewaju Kuye, emphasized that no other students from the university were involved or hospitalized, countering earlier claims of three student fatalities The Punch.
