Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has issued a stern warning to contractors handling ongoing road projects in Abuja, threatening severe sanctions for any unauthorized variations or alterations outside approved project scopes.
Wike, who spoke during an inspection tour of several key road corridors, expressed displeasure over reports that some contractors were attempting to introduce cost changes, structural adjustments, and timeline extensions without prior approval from the FCT Administration. He said such actions undermine transparency, inflate project costs, and delay delivery timelines.
The minister emphasized that all contractors must adhere strictly to the terms and specifications of their contracts, stressing that attempts to manipulate figures or introduce last-minute variations would be treated as acts of sabotage.
He added that the FCT Administration has tightened monitoring systems, introduced stronger oversight teams, and empowered engineers to flag any deviations immediately. Contractors found culpable would face penalties ranging from contract suspension to outright termination and blacklisting.
Wike assured residents that the administration remains committed to delivering high-quality road infrastructure efficiently and without misuse of public funds.
