A Yoruba socio-cultural group has warned of an Islamisation agenda in Nigeria and urged South-West states to prepare for potential fallout from a proposed U.S. military strike on terrorist cells.
The Alliance for Yoruba Democratic Movements (AYDM) issued a statement on November 9, 2025, claiming that Nigeria faces an “open agenda to Islamise” the country. The group cited mass killings of Christians and Muslims in the Middle Belt and South-West as evidence of rising extremism Vanguard.
AYDM called on governors in Lagos, Oyo, Ogun, Osun, Ondo, Ekiti, as well as Kogi and Kwara, to brace for the possibility that a U.S. strike on terrorist hideouts in northern Nigeria could push extremists southward. The group’s General Secretary Popoola Ajayi and Publicity Secretary Suleiman Sanusi argued that Nigeria’s leaders have failed to address terrorism and corruption, leaving foreign intervention as the only viable option Vanguard.
The warning comes amid growing debate over sovereignty and foreign military involvement in Nigeria’s internal security. AYDM criticized those opposing the U.S. strike, saying they ignore the government’s “docile” response to violence and pillaging.
