96-Year-Old Woman Found Dead in Soakaway Pit in Kano

Tragedy struck in Sarai Village, Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area of Kano State, as a 96-year-old woman, identified as Habiba Ado, was found dead in a soakaway pit after being declared missing for four days.

According to the Kano State Fire Service, the agency received a distress call around 9:27 a.m. on Thursday, November 6, from a resident, Usman Adamu, reporting that an elderly woman had fallen into a toilet pit. A rescue team was immediately dispatched to the scene, where they recovered the woman’s body from the pit. She was later confirmed dead.

Family members informed officials that the deceased had been battling mental illness, which may have contributed to the tragic incident. The remains were handed over to the ward head of Sarai Village, Musa Muhammad, for burial arrangements.

The Fire Service expressed concern over the safety of open pits and urged residents to secure such structures to prevent future accidents, especially involving vulnerable individuals.
